Integrated COVID Hub North East
Welcome to the Integrated COVID Hub North East
The integrated Covid hub is the first of its kind in the UK and includes a new Lighthouse lab at Baltic Park in Gateshead. This will enable many more Covid tests to be done in the region and is expected to open in December 2020.
Results will be integrated into NHS Test and Trace and electronic patient records, so they are immediately available to those who have been tested, as well as public health and clinical staff. The lab will work closely with existing NHS labs in the region.
Another part of the hub’s work will be to help organisations share and analyse information to manage a rapid response to any outbreaks. This will include tracing, identifying patterns of spread and working with councils and NHS trusts.
And the third element of the hub’s work will be to run a dedicated innovation lab, based at Newcastle Helix, which will develop the next stage of Covid science.
In the labs we have around 1,000 new NHS jobs.
We really want local people to benefit from these opportunities, which will play an important part in supporting the region’s fight against the virus.
Newcastle upon Tyne Hospitals NHS Foundation Trust is managing the new hub and people working in the labs will be employees of Newcastle Hospitals.
As an organisation we are serious about supporting a diverse workforce that reflects our local community and are very much focused on being an inclusive and compassionate place to work.
We are particularly keen to receive applications from:
- people from a Black, Asian or minority ethnic background
- people living with disabilities, hidden or visible
- those who have lost their employment during this pandemic or who have been out of work for a period
- students, including those on sandwich years.
Please come and join our team and play an active role in helping us tackle the Covid-19 pandemic.
