"Always go above and beyond and take every opportunity that comes your way!"

My role as Ophthalmic Specialist Nurse means than I am allowed to work independently, running my own clinic and making my own decisions as I diagnose, treat and discharge or refer patients on for further care.

I love my job because I feel valued and respected, making vital clinical decisions which ultimately help my patients to retain their eyesight. It's challenging but rewarding and there are lots of great opportunities.

I have always been incredibly passionate about what I do, and taken every available opportunity to advance my knowledge with great access to both internal and external training courses.

What are your aspirations for the future?

To continue to offer safe, effective quality care for our patients, and pursue innovate practice.

I can also see myself delivering care as a nurse consultant one day.

Winning a Practice Improvement Award in 2018 was an incredibly proud moment.

Any tips for finding a job that you love?

Tell us about any unusual aspects of the job

The Covid pandemic has made us completely rethink how we practice. This has given us opportunities to make things better and I am currently proposing a brand new recovery pathway for some of our cataract patients, which could potentially save 7000 slots a year. Watch this space!
