"I am proud to be a nurse and feel a great sense of achievement in my job"

As a Sister, I am in charge of the ward and its staff. My main role is to provide safe and appropriate care for our elderly patients who are at the end of their hospital journey and preparing to discharge to community. Alongside the everyday role of nursing care from admission to discharge I support junior staff in a managerial position, creating a positive learning environment. We have a variety of patients with numerous long term conditions including dementia and our aim is to achieve a safe level of ability to ensure quality of life after medical treatment.

What do you love about your job?

The best part of my job is being able to work alongside my team ; a dedicated and loving group who excel in all they do to give our patients the best hospital experience. I love being a small part of our patients lives, gaining experience and knowledge from them and being able to make a difference to their health and wellbeing knowing the smallest interaction can make the biggest difference.

Proudest moment so far?

I am proud to be a nurse and feel a great sense of achievement in my job in Newcastle Trust. However, my proudest moment so far has been my nomination for a ‘Personal Touch Award’ and being the Trust employee of the year for 2015.
