Day Treatment Centre
A new day treatment centre and a new opportunity @Newcastle Hospitals
An exciting new development is taking place at Newcastle Hospitals, where we are investing £20million to provide a purpose-built, dedicated facility for day case treatment.
A self-contained Day Treatment Centre is currently under construction, with completion scheduled for August 2022 and the facility open to patients from September onwards.
The centre will house four new state-of-the-art theatres, along with a dedicated pre-operative ward and post–operative recovery areas, and will enable us to provide thousands of additional procedures in specialties such as musculoskeletal health (MSK), urology, surgery and cardiothoracic services. It will address some of the waiting list challenges caused by the pandemic, through the transfer of suitable day cases from existing theatre lists to free up space for more complex work.
This facility forms part of our ambitious day case improvement programme, which is looking to transform and expand day surgery across the organisation, with a focus on reducing patient days away from home. The centre will initially operate Monday to Friday from 7.00am to 8.00pm with the intention that the building will offer the capacity to provide services in the future over seven days.
The development offers some exciting roles in our outstanding organisation, particularly for people who have a passion for providing and developing day surgery with the chance to be at the forefront of innovative practice. You’ll have a rewarding opportunity to develop and flourish in a fantastic team.
We also have opportunities across the Trust in all specialities for which this application will be considered.
